Fact Check: Did NASA confirms 15 days of darkness in November 2017?

The “15 days of complete darkness on the earth” rumor is being widely shared every year on social media, with different days and different months!

There are various websites and Facebook pages sharing a “Breaking News” saying that in November 2017, the earth will experience complete darkness for 15 days straight and the reports claims an announcement made by a NASA scientist. What’s the truth?

The phenomenon will start on November 15 at 3:00 am and will most likely last until November 30, 4:45 pm. This blackout will be caused by an astronomical event between Jupiter and Venus. There was even a detailed 1000 pages document written by Charles Bolden, head of NASA explaining the strange event to officials at the White House.

Fact: It’s FAKE

Although Charles Bolden is a NASA official, he has never issued any announcement about this 15 days of darkness! This kind of news is being spread by many websites in the past with different official’s name and different time-frame. Last year, there was a viral news about the complete darkness on the earth in June.

Funnily, the fake report goes onto say that during this period Jupiter and Venus will come closer, Venus will glow brighter (hotter) and Jupiter will release absurdly high amount of hydrogen gas to the space, and because of the reaction hydrogen gas will reach the Sun and it changes the color into some bluish color.

There are no reports about this phenomenon on NASA official website, mainstream media or any trustworthy news portals. However, there are many reports published online that REFUTES this “15 days of darkness” claim. Here is one of the link to the fake claim (archived).
