Congratulations Bangalore and congratulations India for one more magnificent transport network in the form of Majestic Station/Kempegowda Station/Namma Metro Station. However, people are so excited that they have started to share the pics (including computer generated blueprints) of the new underground metro station by adding a title – “Asia’s largest underground metro station.”
And the truth is, it isn’t a largest underground metro station in the Asia. It could be the India’s largest (or call it biggest!) underground metro station, as very small number of underground metro stations have been built in India so far!
Maybe, the circulation of this exaggerated information has been started after Deccan Chronicle published an article on June 15, 2017 with the title “Majestic! It’s biggest metro station in Asia!” It seems Deccan Chronicle has taken this title from the BMRCL official and reported it without verifying facts.
Majestic underground metro station has three levels with a total surface area of 48,000 square metres (520,000 square feet). But, it looks like the Futian underground station in Shenzhen city of China is the largest underground railway station, covering a total area of 147,000 square metres.
Futian High-Speed Underground Railway Station was opened in December 2015. There are three levels, one of them (second level) is Futian Metro Station. If you divide 147k by 3, you’ll get 49k square metres, which is bigger than 48k square metres of Majestic Metro Station. Still, unproven it is, unless we get the exact details of the station.
Anyway! largest, biggest doesn’t matter. It should serve the people and their needs first. All these images are photos of Majestic Metro Station (image credits).
